And I察forever telling to my mind察Glory it was察and gladness察to give birth
To humankind Yes察I察that ever thought it not amiss To give the breath to
men察For men to slay again此Lording it over anguish but to give My life
that men might live For this。 You will be laughing now察 remembering I
called you once Dead World察and barren thing察
Yes察so we named you then察You察far more wise Than to give life to
men。;

HORSEMAN SPRINGING FROM
THE DARK此A DREAM
;HORSEMAN察 springing from the dark察 Horseman察 flying wild and
free察Tell me what shall be thy road Whither speedest far from me拭─
;From the dark into the light察 From the small unto the great察 From
the valleys dark I ride O'er the hills to conquer fate ─
;Take me with thee察horseman mine Let me madly rode with thee ─
As he turned I met his eyes察My own soul looked back at me

CHAPTER THE CUP
SHE said察 Lift high the cup ─Of her arm's weariness she gave no sign察
But察smiling察raised it up That none might see or guess it held no wine。

burns within your breast Forgiveness finds its home in hearts at rest察On

THE ROSE
ONE deep red rose I dropped into his grave察So small a thing to give
so great a friend Yet well he knew it was my heart I gave And must fare
on without it to the end察

think he loves again察Who never can forget

SHIPBUILDERS
THE German people reared them An idol made of wood察 And
Hindenburg before them Lifelike and stupid stood。
To clothe him all in iron And thus his soul express察 With nails and
spikes they covered His wooden nakedness。
And when they察thus had clothed him All in a suit of mail察Still came
they察 wild´eyed察 looking For space to drive a nail。 Whenever Teuton
airmen Slay boys and girls at play察Or U´boats察drowning babies察Create a
holiday。
Then察gathering round their statue察A happy German throng Drive nails
into the idol To make him still more strong。
Avenge the babes察shipbuilders察That on the seas have died察Avenge the
little children Murdered for Wilhelm's pride。 Come察gather at the shipyards察
And let your hammers ring察 For more than ships and cargoes Waits on
your fashioning。
Come察gather at the shipyards察With every bolt you drive Bethink you
`tis the Kaiser Whose brutish head you rive。
Come察gather at the shipyards察And swing with might and main察 Tis
Tirpitz and the Crown Prince That you to´day have slain。
Come察 gather at the shipyards察 And heat the metal hot察 For it is
Bethmann Hollweg You're boiling in the pot。
Come察 gather at the shipyards察And when the day is done察 You've
spent it in driving spikes察In Hindernburg the Hun。
Come察gather at the shipyards察And toil with healthy hate察For only you
can save the world察The Hun is at the gate。

UNFADING PICTURES
─The air from the sea came blowing in again察mixed with the perfume
of the flowers。 。 。 。 The old´fashioned furniture brightly rubbed and pol´
ished察my aunt's inviolable chair and table by the round green fan in the
bow´window察 the drugget´ covered carpet察 the cat察 the kettle´holder察 the
two canaries察the old china 。。。 and察wonderfully out of keeping with the rest察
my dusty self upon the sofa察taking note of everything。;
´;David Copperfield察─Chapter XIII。
HOW many are the scenes he limned察With artist strokes察clear´cut and
free´ Our Dickens察time shall not efface Their charm察and they will ever
grace The halls of memory。
Oft and again we turn to them察To contemplate in pleased review察And
like some picture on the screen Comes now to mind a favorite scene His
master´pencil drew此
Upon a sofa察stretched in sleep察I see a small lad察spent and worn察And
by the window察 stern and grim察A silent figure watching him察 So dusty察
ragged察torn。
Ah察now she rises from behind The round green fan beside her chair察
;Poor fellow ─ croons´and pity lends Her voice new softness´and she
bends And brushes back his hair。
Then in his sleep he softly stirs。 Was that a dream察 these murmured
words拭He wakes There by the casement sat Miss Trotwood still察close by察
her cat And her canary birds。
The peaceful calm of that quaint room察 Its marks of comfort
everywhere Old china and mahogany And blowing in察fresh from the sea察
The perfume´laden air。
Poor little pilgrim so bereft察So weary at his journey's end What joy
must then have filled his soul To reach at last such happy goal´ To findoh察
such a friend 。 。
And then night came察and from his bed He saw the sea察moonlit and
bright察And dreamed there came察 to bless her son察 His mother察 with her
little one察Adown that path of light。
Ah察greater blessing I'd not crave察When my life's pilgrimage is o'er察

WITH WAVES AND WINGS
WAVES and Wings and Growing Things As through the gladden sight
ye flow And flit and glow察Ye win me so In soul to go察I too am waves察I
too am wings察And kindred motion in me springs。
With thee I pass察 glad growing grass I climb the air with lissome
mien察Unsheathing keen The vivid sheen Of springing green察I thrill the
crude察exalt the crass Fine´flex'd and fluent from Earth's mass。
And impulse craves with thee察Sea Waves To make all mutable the
floor Of Earth's firm shore察 With flashing pour Whose brimming o'er
Impassion'd motion loves and laves And livens sombre slumbering caves。
Then soaring where the wild birds fare察 My song would sweep the
windy lyre Of Heaven's choir察 Pulsing desire For starry fire察 Abashing
chilling vagues of air With throbbing of warm breasts that dare

BLUEBERRIES
UPON the hills of Garlingtown Beneath the summer sky察 In many
pleasant pastures On sunny slopes and high察 Their skins abloom with
dusty blue察Asleep察the berries lie。
And all the lads of Garlingtown察And all the lasses too察Still climb the
tranquil hillsides察 A merry察 barefoot crew察 Still homeward plod with
unfilled pails And mouths of berry blue。
And all the birds of Garlingtown察 When flocking back to nest察
Remember well the patches Where berries are the best察 They pick the
ripest ones at dawn And leave the lads the rest。
Upon the hills of Garlingtown When berry´time was o'er察I looked into
the sunset察And saw an open door察And from the hills of Garlingtown I
went察and came no more。
